design - comfort - quality

A great sofa plays an important role in living room decor and functionality. But finding one that lives up to a household with pets, children, or both, can quickly become an intimidating purchase—but it doesn’t have to.

To navigate the major material, style, and care considerations behind choosing the best pet- and kid-friendly couches, we put together this guide to our best selling mid-century modern sofas and chairs.

Brooklyn Space furniture is built to live up to use for the long term, and our velvet fabrics resist claws, stains, and daily wear. Our fabrics are inherently scratch-resistant, however we do recommend keeping your cats' and dogs' nails trimmed for extra security. Hair does not get lodged inside fabric, easily brushes away by hand, a lint remover or vacuum. Often, mud, dirt, and drool can easily come off with just a damp cloth. For stains, we recommend dish soap and warm water (see full care instructions). Our fabric is easy to clean without the use of added chemicals that can be harmful to you, your family, and pets.

What to Keep in Mind While Shopping for Pet- and Kid-Friendly Couches

Dimensions

Dimensions help you narrow the field of options to couches that will fit in your space. For NYC customers with room for 1 sofa, we recommend to purchase a 3-seat sofa (space permitting). Loveseats are adorable, but hard to nap on. This is why we keep a large selection of 3-seat sofas in-stock for quickship delivery.

Brooklyn Space sofas and chairs have average seat depth - not too shallow and not too deep. We also have average seat height: around 18 inches. Be sure to measure your space before purchasing a couch to make sure it will fit appropriately in your living space. Feel free to contact us with questions about fitting your new sofa in your apartment - we deliver to NYC all the time so know small spaces!

Materials

Fabrics
Perhaps the most considered factor for the best pet- and kid-friendly couch is the fabric and upholstery. Brooklyn Space velvet is stain-resistant, pet-friendly and family-friendly, all without harmful added chemicals and treatments. Our fabric is durable against claws and scratching, while preventing pet hair from working its way into the fibers.

Cushions
After fabric, sofa cushions get the most wear from use and age. Our cushions are made from high-density foam that retain the body and shape for the long term, while offering support and plush comfort.

Frame
The skeleton of the sofa, Brooklyn Space sofa and chair frames are constructed of highly durable eucalyptus wood to withstand everyday use for years to come.

Style

Design
The design of your sofa should match the look of your space and your personal taste. Is your taste minimalist with sleek, simple lines, or eclectic with contrasting shapes and textures? We offer modern, angular sofas and chairs, as well as curved and nuanced.

Color
Do you like gray-scale pieces with pops of color, or is your style maximalist with multiple bright colors? Brooklyn Space is known for beautiful our gem-tone fabric colors. One customer called us the Willy Wonky of color options!
